Postdoc
Fellows receive an annual living allowance (varying by host country, roughly USD 50,000–70,000), plus a separate research and travel allowance; relocation, child, and parental-leave allowances may also apply. The award runs for 3 years and is non-renewable.
HFSP supports PhD holders in the life sciences (Long-Term Fellowship) and researchers from non-life-science fields such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering and computer science applying to life-science-relevant questions (Cross-Disciplinary Fellowship). Applicants can be of any nationality but cannot apply to work in their own country of nationality, and must relocate to an HFSPO member country (e.g. USA, Japan, South Korea, most EU states). Uzbekistan is not an HFSPO member country, which is precisely why Uzbekistan nationals qualify as eligible “non-member-country” applicants.
Annual
Annual cycle: the Letter of Intent (LOI) portal opens in March, the LOI submission deadline is in May (for the 2027 cycle in 2026: 5–12 May), and the Full Proposal deadline for shortlisted applicants is in September (24 September 2026). The cycle repeats annually on a similar schedule.
European Commission
The total budget of a consortium project can range from several hundred thousand to several million euros. Under the Widening Participation instruments (Teaming, Twinning, ERA Chairs), a partner organisation may receive over €100,000; the exact amount depends on the terms of the specific call.
OeAD — Austria's Agency for Education and Internationalisation
The grant provides a stipend of EUR 1,300 per month during the research stay in Austria, plus assistance with accommodation and health insurance. Grant duration ranges from 1 to 9 months and cannot be extended.
TWAS + UNESCO
TWAS covers travel costs to the host centre of excellence and provides a monthly allowance of USD 300 for local living expenses; the host centre covers accommodation, meals and research infrastructure. Associateship status is granted for a 3-year term, during which the associate may visit the centre twice (2-3 months each visit); the term may be renewed for a further 3-year period if funds permit.
European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO)
Fellows receive a monthly salary or stipend (per EMBO's official country-specific “Contract Rates” schedule), a relocation allowance, and support for childcare costs (up to €2,500/year per child under age six).
