Doctoral candidates and early-career postdocs receive a stipend of approximately €1,200–1,400 per month, along with health/accident insurance and a travel grant; the exact rate is updated annually.
Doctoral candidates who began their doctorate no more than 3 years ago, and early-career postdocs who received their doctoral degree no more than 4 years ago. The official application form lists over 190 countries — applicants of almost any nationality, including Uzbekistan, may apply. Candidates must not have spent more than 15 months in Germany, and the entire doctorate must not take place in Germany.
Apply via the DAAD scholarship database (daad.de scholarship database) by selecting the 'Research Grants – Short-Term Grants' programme, then submit your application, research plan, CV, letters of recommendation, and a letter of invitation from a host supervisor in Germany through the my.daad.de portal.
Annual
Applications are accepted annually until 30 October (23:59 Central European Time). Applications submitted by 30 October 2026 will be reviewed in spring 2027, with funding starting from October 2027.
Royal Society (UK)
Under the Global round: up to £3,000 for a single visit (up to 3 months), up to £6,000 for multiple visits within one year, and up to £12,000 in total over two years. Under the Cost-Share round, the Royal Society provides up to £12,000, matched by an equal contribution from an overseas partner organisation (e.g. Italy's CNR, Japan's JSPS, China's NSFC, or Taiwan's NSTC).
European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN)
A daily allowance of approximately CHF 93-94 (tax-free) for accommodation and meals, plus coverage of travel costs to and from Geneva and full health insurance.
U.S. Department of State
A monthly stipend, international and domestic travel costs, health insurance, and research/program allowances are covered by the U.S. Department of State; the exact amount depends on the field and duration of the grant (the official page does not publish a specific figure).
