OeAD — Austria's Agency for Education and Internationalisation
The grant provides a stipend of EUR 1,300 per month during the research stay in Austria, plus assistance with accommodation and health insurance. Grant duration ranges from 1 to 9 months and cannot be extended.
Citizens of any country except Austria may apply, including Uzbekistan — the grant targets doctoral candidates who hold a master's degree and postdoctoral researchers under 35. Applicants must not have studied or worked in Austria in the six months before the grant begins.
Register and apply through the OeAD online portal (asa.oead.at), uploading a CV, research plan, supervisor's recommendation, and a letter of invitation from the hosting Austrian university or institute.
Annual
Applications are submitted online annually by 1 February (for the 2026/27 academic year, the deadline is 1 February 2026, 23:59 CET). The application window opens in October.
TWAS + UNESCO
TWAS covers travel costs to the host centre of excellence and provides a monthly allowance of USD 300 for local living expenses; the host centre covers accommodation, meals and research infrastructure. Associateship status is granted for a 3-year term, during which the associate may visit the centre twice (2-3 months each visit); the term may be renewed for a further 3-year period if funds permit.
European Commission
The total budget of a consortium project can range from several hundred thousand to several million euros. Under the Widening Participation instruments (Teaming, Twinning, ERA Chairs), a partner organisation may receive over €100,000; the exact amount depends on the terms of the specific call.
European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO)
Fellows receive a monthly salary or stipend (per EMBO's official country-specific “Contract Rates” schedule), a relocation allowance, and support for childcare costs (up to €2,500/year per child under age six).
