Honjo International Scholarship Foundation
Provides a monthly stipend of JPY 180,000–230,000 depending on program length (JPY 230,000 for 1–2 year programs, JPY 210,000 for 3-year programs, JPY 180,000 for programs longer than 3 years), paid for the full minimum period required to obtain the degree.
Citizens of any country (other than Japan) may apply — there is no restriction for Uzbekistan citizens. Candidates must be admitted to, or preparing to sit entrance exams for, a master's or doctoral program at a Japanese graduate school for Spring/Fall 2026 enrollment; interviews are conducted in Japanese, so basic Japanese proficiency is required.
Verify your eligibility on the official hisf.or.jp website, complete the form and upload documents via the online application system, and submit a two-minute video about yourself and your research.
Annual
Applications are accepted annually from September 1 to October 31. Interviews are held in February of the following year, in Tokyo or online. The next cycle opens September–October 2026.
