Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI) Master's Grants

Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI)

About the grant

Provides a grant of up to €10,000 per academic year (covering admission fees, tuition, and learning materials); for two-year (120 ECTS) master's programmes, a separate grant application is required for the second year. Health and repatriation insurance are also covered.

Who can apply

Open to citizens of any country (Uzbekistan included) — there is no official nationality restriction, only a non-binding list of 'priority countries'. Candidates must hold a bachelor's or master's degree from a recognised foreign institution, obtained no more than 5 years before the programme starts. Candidates already studying in Belgium or who previously received an ARES scholarship are not eligible.

How to apply

Apply to a master's programme at a recognised higher education institution in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, then submit the WBI grant application with all required documents to that institution before the deadline; incomplete applications are not forwarded to the WBI selection jury.

Important dates

Annual

The application deadline for the 2026-2027 academic year expired at midnight (Brussels time) on 31 March 2026 — this deadline has already passed (as of today, 12 July 2026). The programme recurs annually around the same period; the next deadline for the 2027-2028 academic year is expected around 31 March 2027.

Useful tips

  • Take IELTS or TOEFL in advance — most scholarships require at least 6.5.
  • Request recommendation letters at least 2 months early — professors need time.
  • In your motivation letter, clearly state your goals and plans after returning to Uzbekistan.
