The Uzbek alphabet: Latin and Cyrillic
The complete correspondence table for the official 1995 Latin alphabet and Cyrillic — with an example for every letter.
Uzbek writes the same word in two scripts. The table below shows how each Latin letter is written in Cyrillic and the other way round. Most letters map directly to one another, but a few change depending on where they fall in the word — those are explained separately.

The letter «e» is written two ways
At the start of a word and after a vowel, «e» becomes «э»; after a consonant it stays «е». There is nothing to memorise — the converter reads the letter's position itself.

In Cyrillic, but with no letter of their own in Latin
These letters are written as combinations in the Latin alphabet. When converting older Cyrillic documents, this is where most mistakes happen.

Three places it is easy to go wrong
«h» and «x» are different letters
«h» becomes «ҳ» and «x» becomes «х». Merging them is the commonest bug in hand-rolled converters, because «xalq» and «halq» are entirely different words.
The «ng» combination
«ng» counts as a separate letter of the 1995 alphabet, but it changes nothing in writing: in Cyrillic it simply stays «нг».
The letter «ц» depends on position
Cyrillic «ц» becomes «s» at the start of a word, at the end, and after a consonant — «цемент» → «sement». Between two vowels it becomes «ts» — «медицина» → «meditsina».
