How do you change the title and author stored in a PDF?
You can edit the hidden document properties — title, author, subject and keywords. The current values are filled into the form in advance, so you can see exactly what you are changing. The tool does not change the text on the page: a title typeset on the first page stays where it is, and only the file properties are updated.
What the metadata editor does not do

Worked example: filling in empty fields
In the test file the title and author fields were empty, while the producer field named the library that had created it. A title, an author and three comma-separated keywords were entered. Reading the finished file back showed the new title and author, and the keywords had become a list of separate words. The producer field, which was not touched, kept its original value.
For repositories and search engines
When you deposit a paper in an institutional repository or upload it to a journal portal, the system reads the file properties first and often takes the title field as the name of the record. In a PDF exported from Word that field usually still holds "Document1" or the name of whoever owned the template — which is how somebody else can end up credited in a list of research outputs. The keywords field behaves the same way: it gives search engines a subject signal, and it is best kept consistent with the keywords OAK requires. Correcting three fields before you submit takes a minute, but the record is then stored in that state for years.
Questions about PDF metadata
Does this change the title printed on the page?
No. Text drawn on a page is document content and is left alone. The values you edit live in the file properties and show up in a viewer document-info panel and in library systems.
Can a field be cleared completely?
Yes. Leaving a field empty in the form clears the value. A field you never touched keeps its value — the two cases are distinguished on purpose, otherwise untouched fields would quietly disappear.
How should keywords be written?
Separate them with commas or semicolons and they become a list of individual keywords. The test entered "sorbent, adsorbsiya, tozalash" and the file properties stored three separate keywords.
Does this make the document anonymous?
No. Clearing the fields does not erase every trace: the name of the program that created the document and other technical records may remain inside it. For a fully de-identified copy, export the document again from the original program.
