How do you remove a password from a PDF?
You enter the password, the tool opens the document and saves it again without encryption. The result is an ordinary PDF that no longer asks for a password every time. This is not a password cracker: if you do not know the password, the document will not open.
What this tool does not do
- It does not find or guess the password — you have to supply it.
- It returns no result if the file has no password, and says so plainly.
- It does not change the content, the page order or the page size.
Example: a journal copy that asks every time
A 14-page article downloaded from a journal site asked for a password on every open. With the password supplied, the tool saved the document again without encryption: the page count, the text layer and the images were unchanged, and the file shrank by about one per cent. It now opens with no prompt, and other tools — Merge PDF, for instance — will accept it.
When a protected file has to go to another tool
A password-locked PDF is refused by most tools: merging, text extraction and plagiarism systems all stop because the file will not open. Working on your own document, that is an obstacle for no benefit, and removing the password clears it. One caution: do not leave the unprotected copy somewhere public — if the document genuinely has to stay closed, lock it again with the Password-protect a PDF tool once you are done. The tool does not find the password — you supply it, so this is not a cracking tool. Before removing protection from a document that is not yours, make sure the sender does not mind: a publisher or a co-author may have locked the file deliberately.

Frequently asked questions
Does it work if I do not know the password?
No, and that is deliberate. The tool does not guess passwords and does not break encryption — it only opens the document with the password you give it.
What if the file has no password?
The tool returns no result and tells you there is nothing to remove. Handing back an identical file would create the false impression that work had been done.
Does document quality change?
No. The pages, the text layer and the images are left exactly as they were — only the encryption layer is removed.
Where does the password go?
Nowhere. It is used in your browser, only to open the document, and is never stored.
