How do you put a signature or a seal on a PDF?
You upload the document and the signature image, choose a position and a width, and the tool draws it onto the pages you selected. This is an image-placement tool: it does not certify the document with a digital signature and it proves nothing about whose signature it is.
What this tool does not do
- It does not apply a digital signature and does not make the document legally certified.
- It does not verify who the signature belongs to — it is an ordinary image, and anyone could place it.
- It does not remove the image background for you: if you need a transparent background, prepare a PNG first.
Example: the last page of a report
A scanned signature (a PNG with a transparent background) was placed on a two-page report. Only the second page was selected, the position set to bottom-right and the width to a quarter of the page. On an A4 page that is about 149 points, or 5.2 cm — close to a hand-written signature. The first page was left untouched.
When departmental documents are being finalised
Syllabuses, working programmes and placement reports are submitted carrying the signature of the head of department or of the authors. The usual route is to print the document, sign it and scan it back in: those three steps destroy the text layer and multiply the file size. Placing the signature image directly into the PDF leaves the text where it is. One caution: if the official submission goes through a system that requires a digital signature, an image will not stand in for one. To prepare the signature image, sign in black ink on white paper, scan it and crop the empty margin away. A PNG with a transparent background gives the best result: a JPG keeps a white background, and on a page that is not white a visible box appears behind the signature.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as a digital signature?
No. A digital signature certifies the document cryptographically and proves who signed it. This tool simply draws an image. Where a digital signature is required, use its own system.
Can I make the signature background transparent?
Not here. Prepare a PNG with a transparent background beforehand — JPG has no transparency at all, and the background will be filled white.
Can I sign only one page?
Yes. Select the pages you want from the list; if none is selected, the signature goes on every page.
Will the signature come out crooked on a rotated page?
No. The position is worked out from the view the reader sees, so on a rotated page the signature still lands on the right side and stands upright.
