How do you build one PDF out of images?
Upload several JPG or PNG images and each becomes a page of a single PDF document. A page takes the dimensions of its own image, so nothing is cropped and no blank border is added. The tool does not turn writing in an image into text: the result stays a picture and cannot be searched.
What building from images does not do
- It does not turn writing in an image into text — searching will not work.
- It does not rotate or crop the images for you.
- It does not fit pages to A4 — a separate tool does that.
Worked example: images of different sizes
Two images of different sizes were uploaded in the test — one 1 by 1 and one 4 by 3 points. The result was a 2-page PDF whose page sizes matched the images exactly: the first page 1 by 1 and the second 4 by 3 points. To bring the pages to one format the result was passed through the Page size tool, and the A4 pages came out as 595 by 842 points.
Turning signed paperwork into an appendix
An implementation act, an extract from department meeting minutes, a reference letter and a patent certificate are all signed and stamped on paper. A scanner is not always at hand, so they are often photographed on a phone and stay as a dozen separate shots. An appendix, though, has to be one file, because the academic secretary accepts a document rather than ten photographs. Uploading the shots in the right sequence and assembling them into one PDF closes that step. After that, fitting the document to A4 with the Page size tool and numbering it with the Page numbers tool makes the appendix ready to print.
Questions about building a PDF from images
Which image formats are accepted?
JPEG and PNG images are embedded in the document. The file type is determined from the content rather than the extension, so a wrongly named file is still recognised correctly. An unsuitable file is not dropped silently — the tool says which one was not accepted.
Why did the pages come out at different sizes?
Each page takes the size of its own image so the picture is neither cropped nor stretched. If phone photographs were taken at different sizes, the pages differ too. You can even them out with the Page size tool.
Can the text in an image be searched?
No. The result is a document made of pictures with no text layer. If you need to search or copy the text, the document has to go through recognition software — this tool does not do that.
How is the image order decided?
Pages follow the sequence in which you uploaded the files; there is no sorting by name or capture time. If the order comes out wrong, pass the finished PDF to the Reorder pages tool.
