When does this apply?

For a design in which one continuous outcome is compared across exactly two categorical factors at once — method × group, say. The headline result is the interaction, because that is the one question two separate one-way analyses cannot answer; both main effects still appear in the ANOVA source table with their own F, p and η²ₚ. Every cell must contain at least one observation.
